Colonies on PDA attaining 35-mm at 25 °C after 5 days, initially white with scanty aerial mycelium, turning velvety, dark olivaceous brown from the center with age, margins entire, reverse similar, completely turning black in older culture.
Note
Sporulation was not observed, even though trials have made on PDA, OA and WA. Base on the phylogenetic relationships inferring from ITS region, this strain belongs to H5 clade defined by Wendt et al. (2018). The most possible identity of this strain is Hypoxylon pulicicidum strain CBS 122622 (98.29%; JX183075). Hypoxylon species are known to have prominent stromata of sexual state growing on wood. It is interesting to have Hypoxylon occurring on rice grains.
